Cascade Track

I would have thought we'd already descended considerably, but there was quite a bit more to do yet.

One of the things I find most frustrating is trying to convey the steepness of a piece of track. This one is considerably steeper than it appears here.

This is followed by a longish section of boardwalk

another flattish bit, and another descent

If ARC could organise steps like these in a couple of other places along here, they could open up the track to many more people.

We pass through another section of kiekie-dominated forest floor.

Kauri litter covers the path along here.

Beside the track is a specially glowing green moss, and a host of other small plants.

Poison stations are all along here. Do keep your dog under control. I've often thought a lightweight muzzle would be a good idea for Alice, so she can drink from the streams, but not eat, except what she is given.

This kauri is covered in a gum waterfall

and speaking of water, here's the first crossing. Shallow enough, but about 750mm of bank to descend, with no defined steps.

Alice takes a dip.

The water is remarkably clear, but nowhere does it approach the crystal quality of the South Island Streams.
